Trust is built in
Every member is verified by ORCID or a confirmed institutional email. A verification seal on a profile or claim means the person is who they say they are — it is a signal, not a gate: anyone can read, and verified scholars can post. Reputation is public and legible through the J-index, a number modelled on the h-index that scientists already trust.

Profiles, papers, and opportunities are assembled from 56+ open sources — OpenAlex, Crossref, PubMed, ORCID, and many more. Every figure links back to where it came from, so the record stays honest and checkable. See the full list on the sources page.
What JRNLClub is not
No anonymous posting. No recruiter spam. No paywall on reading other people’s work, and nothing that scrolls away and disappears. JRNLClub does not run a peer-review pipeline or take payments — those live at its sibling, Alpha1 Science, on the same verified identity.

Who is JRNLClub for?
Working scientists — graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and researchers in industry and government. Every member verifies their identity through ORCID or an institutional email, so the network is people doing real science, not anonymous accounts.
Is it free?
Yes. Reading is open to everyone, and posting is free for verified scholars. There is no paywall on reading other people’s work and no charge to maintain your profile.
How is this different from academic Twitter or LinkedIn?
JRNLClub borrows the best of three references — LinkedIn’s career graph, Substack’s owned audience, academic Twitter’s quick takes — without the recruiter spam, paywalls, or ephemerality. Your posts accumulate into a durable, citable profile instead of scrolling away.
Where does the data on my profile come from?
Publications, citations, co-authors, and affiliations are pulled from open scholarly sources such as OpenAlex, Crossref, PubMed, and ORCID. JRNLClub reads from 56+ sources in total; you can see the full list and correct anything that’s wrong.
What is the J-index?
A reputation number modelled on the h-index: the greatest N such that you have N posts with at least N upvotes each. It rewards a consistent record of valued contributions rather than a single viral moment.
