Aidan G.C. Wright's research centers on the quantitative structure of psychopathology and personality pathology. His most-cited lead-author work maps the hierarchical structure of DSM-5 pathological personality traits, and a companion paper advances an expanded quantitative empirical model of psychopathology. As senior author, he helped articulate the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology (HiTOP) as a consensus quantitative nosology, a framework that has become central to dimensional approaches. Related work extends this structural lens to narcissism, including grandiose and vulnerable narcissistic presentations in psychotherapy. Beyond these, Wright contributed as a middle author to the HiTOP dimensional alternative to traditional nosologies, the framework's foundational statement, and to the initial construction and validation of the Pathological Narcissism Inventory, an instrument underlying much of his later narcissism research. His work also includes personalized models of psychopathology and evidence that psychopathology symptom networks have limited replicability, reflecting a methodological caution alongside his structural claims. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond his publications. Across these outputs, the throughline is a sustained effort to replace categorical psychiatric diagnosis with empirically derived, hierarchically organized dimensional models, and to test those models rigorously.
