Amir Arbabi's indexed work centers on dielectric metasurfaces and flat optics, particularly the design of ultrathin components that control light with subwavelength precision. His most-cited first-author contributions include complete phase and polarization control in dielectric metasurfaces and high-numerical-aperture, high-efficiency subwavelength-thick lenses based on high-contrast transmitarrays, both of which helped establish practical metalens architectures. A related line of inquiry extends this to a miniature planar camera using a wide-angle metasurface doublet corrected for monochromatic aberrations and to planar metasurface retroreflectors, while later work surveys the field's trajectory in advances in optical metalenses. Beyond these, Arbabi has contributed to MEMS-tunable dielectric metasurface lenses and full-Stokes imaging polarimetry using dielectric metasurfaces, reflecting an interest in reconfigurable and polarization-sensitive flat-optics systems, with collaborators including Andrei Faraon. His senior-author output has moved toward computational design, including multifunctional 2.5D metastructures enabled by adjoint optimization and large-scale parametrized metasurface design using adjoint optimization, alongside snapshot spectral imaging with parallel metasystems. No software tools, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond these publications, so the apparent arc runs from foundational dielectric metasurface components toward optimized, multifunctional and imaging-oriented systems.
