Andrea Danese's indexed work centers on how adverse childhood experiences become biologically embedded, linking maltreatment to allostatic load and age-related disease across the life course. His most-cited first-author synthesis, on childhood adversity, allostasis, and allostatic load, has drawn over 2,100 citations, while a PNAS life-course study reporting that childhood maltreatment predicts adult inflammation established an inflammatory pathway later extended in depressed adults with maltreatment histories. A senior-author meta-analysis showing that childhood maltreatment predicts poorer depression course and treatment outcome complements systematic reviews linking maltreatment to obesity and to unfavorable bipolar disorder outcomes. Beyond these, Danese contributed as a co-author to quantification of biological aging in young adults and to an umbrella review of long-term outcomes of childhood sexual abuse, alongside Avshalom Caspi on the former. His senior-authored methodological work comparing prospective versus retrospective measures of childhood maltreatment argues that assessment design shapes observed health associations, a theme echoed in his Lancet Psychiatry epidemiology of trauma and PTSD in young people in England and Wales. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond these publications. The through-line is consistent: measuring adversity carefully, then tracing its mental and physical health consequences.
