Andrew J. Armstrong's research centers on treatment resistance and therapeutic sequencing in advanced prostate cancer. His first-author work on circulating tumor cells displaying both epithelial and mesenchymal markers helped establish liquid-biopsy biology in advanced disease, while the ARCHES trial tested androgen deprivation therapy combined with enzalutamide in metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer, a study whose influence is reflected in its high citation count. The PROPHECY study further validated androgen receptor splice variant 7 as a predictor of hormone therapy resistance, and his senior-authored PROpel analysis examined olaparib plus abiraterone in metastatic castration-resistant disease. Earlier contributions include middle-author roles in the pivotal enzalutamide trials, including enzalutamide after chemotherapy and enzalutamide before chemotherapy, alongside sustained involvement in NCCN prostate cancer guideline development. His senior-authored work spans PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway targeting and neuroendocrine prostate cancer subtypes, and he has collaborated with Charles G. Drake. No software, datasets, or patents are indexed beyond these publications, so the through-line is a clinical-trials and biomarker program linking resistance mechanisms to practice-changing therapy.
