Angelo Antonio Izzo's indexed work centers on the pharmacology of plant-derived cannabinoids and herbal medicines, with a recurring emphasis on therapeutic potential and safety. His most-cited first-author contributions examine non-psychotropic cannabinoids as therapeutic opportunities, a 2009 synthesis cited over 850 times, and interactions between herbal medicines and prescribed drugs, which has shaped subsequent pharmacovigilance discussions. A related strand, developed as senior author, addresses cannabidiol's neuroprotective effects against β-amyloid toxicity and cannabigerol's benefit in experimental inflammatory bowel disease, linking cannabinoid chemistry to gut and neural targets. Beyond these, his broader output includes middle-author contributions to flavonoids as natural therapeutic drugs and polyphenol chemistry, occurrence, and human health, alongside senior-author overviews of milk thistle in liver disease and best-practice standards in phytopharmacological research. No software, datasets, patents, or funded grants appear in the indexed record; the contribution is carried entirely by publications. Across these works, the throughline is a sustained effort to evaluate plant-derived compounds—cannabinoids, flavonoids, and herbal extracts—for both efficacy and interaction risk, moving between mechanistic laboratory studies and clinically oriented reviews.
