Anthony P. Davenport's indexed work centers on G protein-coupled receptor pharmacology, particularly the endothelin and apelin systems. His highly cited review of endothelin biology and receptor nomenclature (771 citations) is complemented by immunocytochemical mapping of the apelin receptor APJ in human cardiomyocytes and vascular endothelium, and by identification of apelin-13 as the predominant cardiac isoform. A parallel strand uses molecular imaging to detect active vascular microcalcification by 18F-sodium fluoride PET, connecting receptor biology to atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability. Beyond these lead-author works, Davenport contributed to the IUPHAR/BPS Guide to PHARMACOLOGY knowledgebase and to consensus Concise Guide to PHARMACOLOGY reviews of GPCRs, and collaborated with Adam J Pawson on related receptor curation efforts. His apparent trajectory runs from characterizing peptide-receptor localisation in human tissue, through authoritative receptor classification, to imaging-based interrogation of vascular disease.
