Benjamin D. Johnson's indexed work centers on stellar population synthesis and the modeling of galaxy spectral energy distributions. His most-cited lead contributions include the MIST stellar isochrones and evolutionary tracks, a widely adopted framework for interpreting resolved and unresolved stellar populations, and the Prospector inference framework, which fits broadband photometry and spectroscopy to recover star formation histories and physical properties. Related work extends this modeling to nebular continuum and line emission in stellar population synthesis, addressing how gas emission shapes inferred galaxy properties. Beyond these, Johnson contributed as a middle author to the Spitzer Local Volume Legacy survey and to KINGFISH, a Herschel far-infrared survey of nearby galaxies, both of which supplied the observational baselines his modeling work draws on. No software tools, datasets, grants, or patents are indexed beyond his publications. Across these works, a consistent line runs from empirical dust and star-formation calibrations toward increasingly general, inference-based frameworks for extracting galaxy properties from light, a trajectory shared with collaborators such as Charlie Conroy.
