Benjamin L. Ebert's research centers on how acquired mutations in blood stem cells shape aging and disease. His most-cited senior-author work established that age-related clonal hematopoiesis predicts adverse outcomes, and a follow-up study linked the same phenomenon to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, helping define clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential as a distinct entity from myelodysplastic syndromes. A parallel line of work on lenalidomide-induced degradation of IKZF1 and IKZF3 in multiple myeloma, and later of CK1α in del(5q) MDS, established targeted protein degradation as a therapeutic mechanism, while his studies of point mutations in myelodysplastic syndromes and distinct somatic mutations defining AML ontogeny connected cancer genomics to clinical classification. Earlier contributions include middle-author roles in gene set enrichment analysis and in microRNA expression profiles that classify human cancers, both widely used resources for interpreting cancer genomics. Ebert has also contributed to international consensus efforts on AML diagnosis and management and the classification of myeloid neoplasms. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond his publications. Across these works, his trajectory runs from identifying disease-causing genes through functional screens to defining how clonal hematopoiesis and protein degradation inform diagnosis and therapy.
