Berislav V. Zloković's research centers on the blood-brain barrier as an active participant in neurodegeneration, particularly Alzheimer's disease. His most-cited first-author work, the blood-brain barrier in health and chronic neurodegenerative disorders, established a framework linking barrier integrity to disease progression, while later senior-author reviews extended this to blood-brain barrier breakdown as a driver and early biomarker of cognitive decline. Mechanistic studies from his group identified RAGE-mediated amyloid-β transport across the barrier and LRP-1-dependent amyloid-β clearance from brain, positioning barrier transport systems as therapeutic targets. Beyond these, his contributions include clearance systems in the brain and their implications for Alzheimer disease, a widely cited synthesis of how impaired elimination pathways contribute to pathology. Collaborations with Axel Montagne have advanced understanding of pericyte loss and cerebrovascular integrity in aging, complementing work with Costantino Iadecola on neurovascular dysfunction. No software, datasets, patents, or funded grants appear in the indexed record beyond publications. Taken together, the work traces a sustained line of inquiry: from molecular transport mechanisms at the barrier to vascular contributions in human cognitive decline.
