Research Statement

AI generated · 4d ago

Bernhard Truffer's indexed work centers on the conceptual foundations of sustainability transitions, with a sustained focus on how technological innovation systems interact with the multi-level perspective and on the structuration of socio-technical regimes drawing on institutional theory. His most-cited contributions also develop a spatial perspective on sustainability transitions, arguing that transition dynamics are shaped by regional and territorial contexts, and extend this line of inquiry to global innovation systems and innovation dynamics in transnational settings. Earlier work helped establish strategic niche management as an approach to experimenting for sustainable transport, a framing that continues to inform the field. Beyond these lead-author contributions, Truffer appears as a middle author on emerging solutions to the water challenges of an urbanizing world, connecting his transitions scholarship to urban water governance, and on an early overview that helped consolidate environmental innovation and societal transitions as a research agenda. No software tools, datasets, patents, or funded grants are indexed alongside his publications. Taken together, the named works trace a trajectory from niche-level experimentation toward increasingly spatial, institutional, and transnational accounts of how socio-technical systems change.
