Bogdan Andrei Bernevig's indexed work centers on topological phases of quantum matter, from the quantum spin Hall effect in HgTe quantum wells—a first-author prediction whose roughly 7,000 citations mark it as a foundational result—to the identification of type-II Weyl semimetals, where the Lorentz-violating quasiparticle spectrum opened a distinct branch of topological band theory. His senior-author contributions extend this program toward topological quantum chemistry, a framework connecting band topology to real-space chemical bonding, and toward unconventional quasiparticles beyond Dirac and Weyl fermions in conventional crystals. Beyond these lead-author lines, he appears as a middle author on quantized electric multipole insulators and on the observation of Majorana fermions in ferromagnetic atomic chains on a superconductor, the latter reflecting collaboration with Ali Yazdani. Related work on higher-order topological insulators and on multipole moment pumping and chiral hinge states further develops the boundary-state consequences of crystalline topology. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond these publications. Taken together, the named works trace a consistent arc: predicting topological invariants, classifying the quasiparticles they protect, and connecting both to measurable surface and hinge phenomena.
