Brian James Hall's indexed work spans two distinct lines of inquiry. In behavioral health, his senior-authored research centers on problematic smartphone use and its links to anxiety, depression, and fear of missing out, work that has become a foundational reference in the field, alongside the neglected health of international migrant workers during the COVID-19 epidemic. Earlier in his career, his first-authored economics research examined how CEO compensation relates to firm size and bureaucratic pay benchmarks, with related work on stock options for undiversified executives and their optimal exercise prices. Beyond these lead-author contributions, Hall appears as a middle author on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 analyses of diseases, injuries, and risk factors, as well as on global dementia prevalence estimates and forecasts to 2050 and demographic estimates of fertility, mortality, and healthy life expectancy. No software tools, datasets, patents, or funded grants are indexed beyond his publications. Taken together, the arc runs from executive-compensation economics to population-level burden estimation and, most recently, to the mental health of vulnerable populations—a trajectory united by quantitative methods applied to questions of health, incentive, and inequity.
