Cobus M. Visagie's research centers on the taxonomy, phylogeny and identification of Eurotiales fungi, especially *Penicillium* and *Aspergillus*. His most-cited lead-author work, on the identification and nomenclature of the genus Penicillium, established a standardized framework now widely used in the field. Related studies address fungi isolated from house dust collected worldwide and ochratoxin production and taxonomy in Aspergillus section Circumdati, linking systematic classification to mycotoxin risk in indoor and food-associated environments. Beyond these, Visagie contributed to broader community resources, including a consensus phylogeny and nomenclature for the genus Aspergillus and an overview classification of Eurotiales families, genera and sections, both middle-author efforts that underpin modern fungal systematics. He also participated in the Fungal Planet description sheets series documenting new fungal species. No software, datasets, patents or grants are indexed beyond his publications. Together, these works trace a consistent line of inquiry: resolving fungal diversity and nomenclature to support reliable identification.
