Cecilia Gotor's research at the Universidad de Sevilla centers on cysteine metabolism and hydrogen sulfide signaling in plants. Her most-cited lead-author work identifies an O-acetylserine(thiol)lyase homolog with l-cysteine desulfhydrase activity that regulates cysteine homeostasis in Arabidopsis, a finding extended in later reviews of cysteine and cysteine-related signaling pathways. Related studies show that cysteine-generated sulfide in the cytosol negatively regulates autophagy, and that increased cysteine availability supports cadmium tolerance and accumulation, work rooted in earlier analysis of cytosolic O-acetylserine(thiol)lyase regulation by heavy metals. Beyond these, her portfolio includes guidelines for monitoring autophagy assays, to which she contributed as a middle author within a large consortium, and persulfidation proteome analyses mapping how hydrogen sulfide modifies protein function across biological processes; collaborators such as Ángel M. Muñoz-Fuentes or Luis C. Romero may figure in such studies. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond her publications. Taken together, the named works trace a sustained line of inquiry from cysteine synthesis and heavy-metal tolerance toward sulfide-mediated post-translational regulation of autophagy and stress signaling.
