Chengchen Li's indexed work centers on foreign language enjoyment, boredom, and anxiety in Chinese EFL learners, treated as measurable, interacting emotions rather than background mood. The widely cited validation of a Chinese version of the Foreign Language Enjoyment scale for high school students (569 citations) established a measurement base that later studies build on, while a positive-psychology account linking trait emotional intelligence, enjoyment, and EFL achievement extended the inquiry to learner traits. A parallel line examines how classroom emotions relate to L2 achievement among rural junior secondary students, and, as senior author, how teacher enthusiasm reaches students' social-behavioral engagement through enjoyment and boredom. Across these studies the recurring method is conceptualizing and measuring foreign language learning boredom and testing it within a control-value theory framework for boredom in Chinese university English classes, alongside work on how classroom environment and trait emotional intelligence predict enjoyment and anxiety. The through-line is a shift from validating emotion scales toward modeling how discrete emotions, learner variables, and teacher variables jointly shape achievement, with Xian Zhao among indexed collaborators.
