Chong Seung Yoon's indexed work centers on the structural stability and degradation of Ni-rich layered cathodes for lithium-ion batteries. His most-cited lead-author studies examine LiNiO2 cycled above 4.2 V, identifying the structural failure modes that limit high-voltage operation, and compositional partitioning in Ni-rich Li[NixCoyMn1–x–y]O2 cathodes designed for next-generation electric vehicles. Related work on cation ordering and self-passivation through Zr doping suggests a sustained interest in how dopants and microstructure govern capacity retention, while later senior-author studies extend this to single-crystalline Ni-rich cathodes upon delithiation. Earlier and middle-author contributions place this research within broader community efforts, including comparative structural and electrochemical studies of layered Li[NixCoyMnz]O2 across nickel contents and capacity-fading mechanisms in Ni-rich NCM cathodes. Collaborations with figures such as Yang-Kook Sun appear across these cathode studies. No software, datasets, patents, or funded grants are indexed beyond the publication record. Taken together, the arc runs from thin-film and nanoparticle processing toward a focused program on compositional and microstructural design of high-energy battery cathodes.
