Christian Laforsch's indexed work centers on micro- and macroplastic contamination across freshwater, terrestrial, and marine systems, with several highly cited lead-author studies. His quantification of microplastics on agricultural farmland (849 citations) and contamination of subalpine lake beach sediments (700 citations) helped establish that plastic pollution extends well beyond the ocean. A widely used method for separating and quantifying plastic particles in aquatic sediments (689 citations) underpins much of this analytical line, later extended through reviews of analytical methods for finding microplastics in soils. Beyond these, his contributions include middle-author work on the Daphnia pulex genome, an early reference for the crustacean biology that recurs in his ecotoxicology, and on organic fertilizer as a vehicle for microplastic entry into the environment. Related studies examine environmental exposure enhancing microplastic internalization into cells and microplastic effects on Daphnia magna life history. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond publications, so the throughline is empirical: from sediment separation methods to organismal and cellular effects of plastic particles.
