Christoph Schneider's research centers on how tissue-resident immune cells are instructed by their local environment, particularly in the lung and intestine. His most-cited first-author work identified GM-CSF-driven induction of PPAR-γ as the switch that turns fetal monocytes into alveolar macrophages (620 citations), a theme he later extended as senior author by showing that alveolar macrophages depend on GM-CSF from alveolar epithelial type 2 cells before and after birth. In parallel, he helped define a metabolite-triggered tuft cell–ILC2 circuit that drives small intestinal remodeling (478 citations), and his related review work on the regulation of immune responses by tuft cells has become a widely cited entry point to that field. Beyond these, Schneider contributed as a middle author to studies on succinate detection by intestinal tuft cells triggering type 2 innate immunity and on how tissue signals imprint ILC2 identity with anticipatory function, both reflecting his interest in how innate lymphoid cells read their surroundings. His work has been shaped by collaborations including Burkhard Becher. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond his publications. Taken together, the arc runs from macrophage ontogeny in the lung to the sensory tuft cell–ILC2 axis in the gut, consistently asking how tissue-derived cues program resident immune cell identity and function.
