Curtis J. Donskey's indexed work centers on how the intestinal tract serves as a reservoir and source for transmission of nosocomial pathogens, a framework he applied to vancomycin-resistant enterococci and Clostridium difficile. His most-cited first-author study showed that antibiotic therapy alters VRE density in the stool of colonized patients, while later senior-author work established that asymptomatic carriers can transmit epidemic and nonepidemic C. difficile strains among long-term care residents. A related line examines unnecessary antimicrobial use in hospitalized patients and the community-associated C. difficile risk tied to antibiotic exposure. Beyond that focus, Donskey contributed to the possible role of dry surface contamination in transmission of SARS, MERS, and influenza in healthcare settings, and to antimicrobial-associated risk factors for C. difficile infection. His senior-author work on contamination of healthcare personnel during removal of personal protective equipment and on whether improved surface cleaning and disinfection reduces healthcare-associated infections extends the same environmental-transmission theme. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond these publications. Across the listed works, the throughline is a sustained inquiry into how pathogens persist, spread, and resist control in clinical environments.
