Damien Roger Farine's indexed work centers on the methods and theory of animal social network analysis. His most-cited first-author contributions include a practical framework for constructing, conducting and interpreting animal social networks (912 citations) and a guide to null models for testing network structure, alongside the asnipe R package for network inference and permutation. A related line of work addresses measurement rigor, including weighted versus binary measures of phenotypic assortment and, as senior author, association indices that handle missing observations and practical guidance for inferring reliable dominance hierarchies. Beyond these methodological anchors, Farine contributed as a middle author to high-impact empirical studies, including experimentally induced innovations spreading as persistent culture via conformity in wild birds and shared decision-making during collective movement in wild baboons. Earlier work connected social networks to ecology and behavior, such as social networks predicting patch discovery in wild songbirds and individual personalities predicting social behaviour in great tit networks. No software, datasets, grants, or patents beyond publications are indexed. Taken together, the listed outputs trace a consistent arc: building the inferential and measurement toolkit for animal social networks, then applying it to questions of culture, collective movement, and individual variation in wild populations.
