Dan J. L. Brett's indexed work centers on electrochemical energy conversion and storage, spanning fuel cells, electrolysers, and batteries. His most-cited first-author review, on intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells, remains a foundational reference in the field with over 1,400 citations. As senior author, he has shaped research on rechargeable aqueous zinc-based energy storage devices and on mass transport in PEM water electrolysers, the latter reflecting a sustained interest in how two-phase flow and transport phenomena govern electrolyser performance. Beyond these, Brett contributed as a middle author to in-operando high-speed tomography of lithium-ion batteries during thermal runaway, a widely cited study with Clare P. Grey, and to tuning interlayer spacing in graphene laminate films for compact capacitive energy storage. His broader portfolio includes reviews on lithium-ion electrode drying, carbon monoxide poisoning mitigation in PEM fuel cells, and ex situ characterization of MoS₂ composites. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond his publications. The throughline is a consistent focus on diagnosing and engineering transport and degradation phenomena across fuel cell, electrolyser, and battery systems.
