Daniel John Lunt's research centres on deep-time palaeoclimate modelling, using warm intervals of the geological past to constrain how the Earth system responds to changing greenhouse gas concentrations. His most-cited indexed work, on future climate forcing potentially without precedent in the last 420 million years, frames this long-view approach, while earlier first-author studies examined CO2 decline as the control on Late Pliocene Greenland glaciation and used Pliocene modelling and data to infer Earth system sensitivity. Across these outputs, the recurring question is how well models and proxy records agree when tested against past warm worlds. That theme extends into community-wide model intercomparison efforts, including his senior role in the DeepMIP database and methodologies for compiling latest Paleocene and early Eocene proxy data, and into the Pliocene Model Intercomparison Project Phase 2 assessment of large-scale climate features and sensitivity. He also contributed as a co-author to broader syntheses, such as work on Pliocene and Eocene analogues for near-future climates and on past climates informing our future, the latter alongside Bette L. Otto‐Bliesner. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond these publications, so the visible arc runs from single-interval sensitivity studies toward coordinated, multi-model reconstructions of ancient warmth.
