David E.I. Gloriam's research centers on G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) biology, combining large-scale data resources with structural and pharmacological analysis. His most-cited senior-author work surveys trends in GPCR drug discovery, mapping new agents, targets and indications (2,649 citations), while the GPCRdb series—including integrated GPCR sequence, structure and function resources—provides the community infrastructure underpinning much of this analysis. Related work on generic GPCR residue numbers that align topology maps across receptors established a widely used numbering scheme, and his studies of GPCR activation mechanisms across receptor classes extend this structural focus. Beyond the database papers, Gloriam contributed to pharmacogenomics of GPCR drug targets and to selectivity determinants of GPCR–G-protein binding, both middle-author contributions to high-impact studies. Earlier work includes comprehensive phylogenetic analysis of GPCR repertoires in human and mouse and, as first author, the rat genome's GPCR subset. His collaboration with Alexander S. Hauser on GPCR drug discovery reflects a sustained line of inquiry: building shared resources, then using them to reveal how receptors are targeted, activated and paired with signaling partners. No software, datasets, patents or grants beyond these publications are indexed.
