David J. Mooney's indexed work centers on hydrogel design for tissue engineering and controlled drug delivery, with alginate as a recurring material platform. His highly cited reviews on alginate properties and biomedical applications and on hydrogels for tissue engineering (over 8,000 and 5,000 citations respectively) frame scaffold design variables, while later work on hydrogels with tunable stress relaxation shows how matrix mechanics regulate stem cell fate. Related studies of polymeric dual growth factor delivery extend this materials focus toward instructive, bioactive implants. Beyond these lead-author reviews, Mooney contributed as a middle author to highly stretchable and tough hydrogels and to work on extracellular matrix viscoelasticity and cellular behaviour, connecting his hydrogel chemistry to broader mechanobiology. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond his publications. Across these outputs, the throughline is a sustained effort to translate polymer and hydrogel material design into controllable cues for cells, tissue repair, and therapeutic delivery.
