David M. Lawrence's indexed work centers on land-surface modeling and its coupling to the climate system. His most-cited first-author contributions describe the Community Land Model Version 5, including new features and benchmarking against forcing uncertainty, and its predecessor's parameterization and structural advances in CLM4. A separate thread examines the partitioning of evapotranspiration into transpiration, soil evaporation, and canopy evaporation in a GCM and its consequences for land–atmosphere interaction, while senior-author work with Clara Deser addresses the seasonal atmospheric response to projected Arctic sea ice loss. Beyond these, Lawrence contributed as a middle author to the permafrost carbon feedback, a synthesis of thaw-driven carbon release, and to the CESM Large Ensemble, a community resource for separating forced change from internal variability. Related consortium papers include CESM2 and the harmonized land-use reconstruction LUH2. No software, datasets, grants, or patents are indexed beyond publications. Taken together, the named works trace a consistent line: building and evaluating community land and Earth system models, then using them to diagnose land–atmosphere coupling, land-use change, and permafrost degradation under warming.
