Angeline Greene Pendergrass studies how precipitation responds to a warming climate, with indexed work centering on the intensification of precipitation variability and its implications for extremes. Her most-cited first-author paper links increased precipitation variability in a warmer climate to both wetter and drier swings, while the question of what precipitation counts as extreme reframes how such events are defined and measured. Related work on the uneven nature of daily precipitation and its change and on the atmospheric energy constraint on global-mean precipitation change traces the physical mechanisms behind these shifts. Beyond these, her contributions include middle-author roles in taking climate model evaluation to the next level and in advances in understanding large-scale water-cycle responses to climate change, both of which situate her precipitation work within broader model-assessment and water-cycle communities. A senior-author study on the regional hydroclimate response to stratospheric sulfate geoengineering extends this line into deliberate climate intervention. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond her publications. Across these works, the throughline is a sustained effort to quantify how precipitation—its extremes, variability, and regional expression—changes under warming and other forcings, often in collaboration with researchers such as Clara Deser.
