Benedict W. Wheeler's indexed work centers on how natural environments—coastal, green, and urban—shape health and wellbeing. His most-cited lead-author studies examine whether living near the coast improves health and wellbeing and, in the "Beyond greenspace" work, how specific natural environment types and quality relate to population general health. As senior author, he has also framed street trees as providers of health- and climate-related ecosystem services in urban settings, a paper whose 600 citations reflect its role in connecting urban forestry to public health. Beyond these, Wheeler contributed as a middle author to large collaborative syntheses, including an ecosystem-service perspective linking nature to mental health and evidence that at least 120 minutes weekly in nature is associated with good health and wellbeing, alongside Mathew P. White and others. Earlier first-author work addressed environmental equity, air quality, and respiratory health using linked routine survey data. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond his publications. Together, the named works trace a consistent line: from environmental-exposure epidemiology toward experiential, wellbeing-oriented accounts of everyday nature contact.
