Mauricio Terrones's indexed work centers on the synthesis, characterization, and defect control of two-dimensional materials, particularly transition metal dichalcogenides. His most-cited senior-author contributions include room-temperature photoluminescence in triangular WS2 monolayers and Raman-based identification of individual and few-layer WS2, which together helped establish optical and vibrational fingerprints for these ultrathin semiconductors. A related review on single- and few-layer nanosheet synthesis, properties, and applications and later work on defect engineering in two-dimensional TMDs extend this line, while his earlier first-author studies on aligned-nanotube bundles and molecular junctions joining single-walled carbon nanotubes reflect a sustained interest in carbon nanostructure morphology and transport. Beyond these, Terrones contributed to widely cited collaborative reviews on two-dimensional materials beyond graphene and to vertical and in-plane WS2/MoS2 heterostructures, alongside work evaluating multiwall carbon nanotube characteristics. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed in the available record, so his public footprint rests on publications. Across these outputs, the through-line is a consistent focus on how growth, layering, and defects govern the electronic and optical behavior of low-dimensional materials.
