Alexander V. Kabanov's most-cited work centers on polymeric nanocarriers for drug and gene delivery, particularly Pluronic block copolymers. His highly cited studies characterize these copolymers as biological response modifiers that overcome drug resistance in cancer, and his work on the endocytosis pathways by which nanomedicines enter cells (2,177 citations) has shaped how the field thinks about carrier-cell interactions. Related first-author contributions examine micelle formation and solubilization in poly(oxyethylene-b-oxypropylene-b-oxyethylene) solutions and DNA complexes with polycations for gene transfer, alongside nanogels as pharmaceutical carriers. Later work extends this trajectory toward macrophage-derived exosomes as natural nanocarriers for protein delivery to the inflamed brain, and his middle-author contributions include exosome-encapsulated paclitaxel to overcome multidrug resistance and engineered macrophage exosomes for targeted paclitaxel delivery to pulmonary metastases. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond these publications. Across the listed works, the arc runs from fundamental colloid and polyplex chemistry toward biologically engineered vesicular carriers, consistently aimed at improving delivery and overcoming resistance in disease treatment.
