Dari Kimanius's indexed work centers on computational methods for cryo-EM structure determination, particularly within the RELION ecosystem. As first author, he helped introduce automated single-particle analysis tools in RELION-4.0, the most-cited work in this portfolio, and later developed data-driven regularization that lowers the size barrier for cryo-EM structure determination, addressing how small or poorly resolved particles can be reconstructed. Earlier first-author contributions include GPU parallelisation to accelerate cryo-EM structure determination in RELION-2 and exploiting prior knowledge about biological macromolecules during reconstruction, alongside SAXS-guided metadynamics for studying protein dynamics. Beyond these lead-author methods papers, Kimanius contributed as a middle author to automated high-resolution cryo-EM structure determination in RELION-3 and to automated model building and protein identification in cryo-EM maps. His more recent senior-author work extends toward deep learning, including advancing particle identification in cryo-electron tomograms and large-scale CryoET segmentation from minimal expert annotations with foundation video models. No software tools, datasets, grants, or patents beyond these publications are indexed. Across the listed works, the throughline is a sustained push to make cryo-EM and cryo-ET reconstruction more automated, robust, and accessible to challenging samples.
