Jayarama D. Bhat's indexed work centers on the systematics and classification of ascomycete fungi, particularly the delimitation of families and higher taxa using combined morphological and phylogenetic evidence. His senior-authored revision and phylogeny of Leptosphaeriaceae (65 citations) exemplifies this taxonomic focus, while broader consortium contributions include a natural classification of Botryosphaeriales (287 citations) and family-level delimitation within Diaporthales (173 citations). Across these outputs, the recurring aim is a stable, phylogenetically grounded framework for fungal families that also accommodates morphological and ecological data. Additional indexed contributions include middle-author roles in the Faces of Fungi database linking fungal names to morphology, phylogeny and human impacts (727 citations) and a backbone classification of Graphostromataceae, Hypoxylaceae, Lopadostomataceae and Xylariaceae (127 citations), alongside work on precise documentation of hosts and geospatial data for plant-associated fungal collections (156 citations). No software, datasets, patents or funded grants are indexed beyond these publications. Taken together, the record traces a sustained line of inquiry into resolving fungal family boundaries and reconciling nomenclature with phylogeny.
