Research Statement

AI generated · Oct 12, 2026

Alex D. Hall's indexed work centers on the physics of climate feedbacks and their role in shaping projections. Early first-author studies examined synchronous Southern Hemisphere atmosphere–sea-ice–ocean variability driven by the annular mode and the contribution of surface albedo feedback to climate sensitivity, the latter anchoring a sustained line of inquiry into snow-albedo feedback and its spread across models. Later senior-author work turned to regional risk, including increased fire-weather risk across the western United States and rising precipitation volatility in twenty-first-century California, alongside efforts to constrain future climate change through emergent constraints. Beyond these, Hall contributed as a co-author to process-informed bias correction of climate simulations and to regional climate change predictability, and worked with Park Williams on western fire-weather attribution. No software, datasets, or patents appear in the indexed record, so the portfolio rests on publications alone. Taken together, the arc runs from diagnosing feedback mechanisms and their uncertainty toward using those diagnostics to sharpen regional projections and risk estimates.
