Amir A. Haghighirad’s indexed work centers on the synthesis and electronic characterization of novel quantum and energy materials. His early first-author work on crystal growth of A₂V₂O₇ pyrochlores under high pressure established a foundation for exploring geometrically frustrated magnets. As last author, he investigated possible strong electron-lattice interaction and giant magneto-elastic effects in iron-pnictides, contributing to the understanding of superconductivity in these systems. More recently, his first-author research has employed scanning tunneling microscopy to probe electronic correlations in the van der Waals ferromagnet Fe₃GeTe₂ and used cobalt substitution to examine local electronic structure in metal halide perovskites. Beyond his lead-author contributions, Haghighirad has been a key collaborator on several highly cited perovskite studies, including work on a mixed-cation lead mixed-halide absorber for tandem solar cells and the development of lead-free tin halide perovskites for photovoltaics. He also contributed to the discovery of Cs₂InAgCl₆, a lead-free halide double perovskite with a direct band gap, and to investigations of band-gap-tunable cesium lead halide perovskites with high thermal stability. Across these efforts, his research consistently bridges the synthesis of novel crystalline materials with detailed probes of their electronic and magnetic properties, advancing both fundamental condensed matter physics and applied photovoltaics.
