Angela Lee Duckworth's indexed work centers on grit as perseverance and passion for long-term goals, the construct she introduced in a 2007 paper that remains her most-cited contribution. She extended this line by developing and validating the Short Grit Scale, a brief self-report instrument for measuring perseverance and consistency of interests, and by showing that self-discipline predicts academic performance in adolescents better than IQ does. Related work examines gender differences in self-discipline, grades, and achievement test scores, alongside meta-analytic evidence on the convergent validity of self-control measures. Beyond these lead-author studies, Duckworth contributed as a middle author to a national experiment testing where a growth mindset intervention improves achievement, a large-scale collaboration with Carol Sorich Dweck. She also co-authored an opportunity cost model of subjective effort and task performance, linking self-control research to effort-based decision-making. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond her publications. Taken together, the listed works trace a consistent inquiry: defining and measuring volitional traits, then testing how they predict real-world outcomes across school, military, and workplace settings.
