Ash A. Alizadeh's indexed work centers on computational deconvolution of bulk tissue expression into cell-type fractions, most prominently the CIBERSORT framework for robust enumeration of cell subsets from tissue expression profiles, a last-author method paper with over 13,000 citations, and its later extension to digital cytometry for determining cell abundance and expression from bulk tissues. This line of inquiry traces back to his first-author role in identifying distinct molecular subtypes of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma by gene expression profiling, which helped establish expression-based classification in lymphoma. Related last-author work applied these approaches to mapping the prognostic landscape of genes and infiltrating immune cells across human cancers, with Aaron M. Newman as a frequent collaborator. Beyond deconvolution, Alizadeh's portfolio includes integrated digital error suppression for circulating tumor DNA detection and targeted sequencing of phased variants to enhance minimal residual disease detection, alongside senior-author studies using ctDNA as an early outcome predictor in lymphoma. Earlier contributions include middle-author work on CD47 as a therapeutic antibody target in acute myeloid leukemia stem cells and on robust composite normalization methods for cDNA microarray data. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond these publications. The throughline is a sustained movement from expression-based tumor classification toward computational and liquid-biopsy tools for measuring tumor and immune heterogeneity.
