Aleksandra Deczkowska’s indexed work centers on the role of microglia and immune signaling in neurodegeneration and brain aging. Her most-cited first-author paper, a 2018 *Cell* review, established disease-associated microglia as a universal immune sensor of neurodegeneration, accumulating over 1,500 citations. She further defined the field with a 2020 *Cell* review on the physiology, pathology, and therapeutic potential of the TREM2 signaling pathway, and experimentally demonstrated that Mef2C restrains microglial inflammatory responses in a 2017 *Nature Communications* study, linking its loss to brain aging. These contributions collectively frame microglial immune checkpoints as central to neurological disease. Beyond her lead-author reviews, Deczkowska contributed to several high-impact collaborative studies. She was a middle author on a 2019 *Cell* paper describing lipid-associated macrophages that control metabolic homeostasis in a Trem2-dependent manner, and on a 2021 *Nature* study showing that NASH limits anti-tumour surveillance in immunotherapy-treated HCC. Her earlier work includes contributions to a 2016 *Science* paper on microglia development following a stepwise program to regulate brain homeostasis. Across these publications, her research consistently explores how immune cells—both in the brain and periphery—sense and respond to tissue stress, with implications for neurodegeneration, metabolic disease, and cancer immunotherapy.
