Research Statement

Chongwen Huang's indexed work centers on reconfigurable intelligent surfaces for energy-efficient wireless communication, the theme of his most-cited first-author paper, which remains a foundational reference in the field. Related first-author contributions extend this line to holographic MIMO surfaces for 6G networks and to deep-reinforcement-learning-based RIS-assisted multiuser MISO systems, while later senior-author work turns toward energy-efficient semantic communication with rate splitting. Beyond these, his representative outputs include middle-author contributions on channel estimation for RIS-empowered multi-user MISO communications and on stacked intelligent metasurfaces for holographic MIMO in 6G, alongside collaborative work with Chau Yuen. No software tools, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond his publications. Taken together, the listed works trace a consistent arc from early energy-efficiency analyses of intelligent surfaces toward learning-driven design, channel estimation, and semantic communication.
