Research Statement

AI generated · Oct 28, 2026

Alexis C. Komor's indexed work centers on programmable base editing that converts target DNA bases without double-stranded breaks, the contribution of her most-cited first-author paper. Related first-author work describes improved base excision repair inhibition using bacteriophage Mu Gam protein, yielding C:G-to-T:A editors with higher efficiency and product purity. Earlier first-author research on rhodium metalloinsertors and their cell-selective biological activity reflects a chemistry foundation in how metal complexes recognize and target DNA. Beyond the focus papers, Komor contributed as a middle author to programmable A•T-to-G•C base editing in genomic DNA and to engineered Cas9-cytidine deaminase fusions that broaden base-editing scope and precision, both of which extend the same editing theme. Her senior-author review work traces base editors' evolution from bench to bedside and the DNA damage products harnessed for genome editing. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond these publications. Across these outputs, the through-line is a sustained effort to make genome editing more precise, chemically controlled, and therapeutically translatable.
