Alistair A. Mathie's indexed work centers on the pharmacology and physiology of neuronal ion channels, particularly two-pore-domain potassium channels and their modulation by G protein-coupled receptors. His most-cited senior-author study identified a functional role for TASK-1 in cerebellar granule neurons, while related work characterized inhibition of TREK-1 by fluoxetine and its metabolite norfluoxetine. Earlier first-author papers examined muscarinic suppression of N- and L-type calcium channels in sympathetic neurons and voltage-activated potassium channel block by pharmacological agents, alongside studies of zinc and copper as modulators of neuronal excitability. Beyond these, Mathie contributed as a middle author to the Guide to Receptors and Channels and the successive Concise Guide to PHARMACOLOGY editions, reference compilations covering receptors, ion channels, and enzymes. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond his publications. Across the listed works, the through-line is a sustained inquiry into how ion channels are identified, pharmacologically probed, and regulated, moving from native neuronal currents toward channel-specific pharmacology and community reference resources.
