André Eric Punt's research centers on the quantitative foundations of fisheries stock assessment and management, with a particular emphasis on how uncertainty is modeled, communicated, and acted upon. His most-cited indexed work reviews standardizing catch and effort data for stock assessment, while a widely cited first-author synthesis on management strategy evaluation best practices helped codify the simulation-testing framework now standard in the field. Earlier work on fisheries stock assessment and decision analysis using Bayesian methods established a probabilistic footing for harvest decisions, and later reviews of integrated analysis in stock assessment consolidated how disparate data sources are combined. Beyond these, Punt contributed as a middle author to models of intermediate complexity for multispecies fisheries management and to work on integrating genetic data into marine resource management, extending his assessment focus toward ecosystem and molecular inputs. His senior-author study on ecosystem-based fisheries management forestalling climate-driven collapse exemplifies this broadening scope. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond his publications. Across these works, the through-line is a sustained effort to make management advice defensible under uncertainty, from data standardization through ecosystem-level simulation, a program reflected in collaborations such as that with Alistair James Hobday.
