Ashwin N. Ananthakrishnan's indexed work centers on the epidemiology and environmental drivers of inflammatory bowel disease, with highly cited reviews on risk factors and environmental triggers in IBD framing much of this line of inquiry. Prospective cohort analyses of long-term dietary fiber and fat intake in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and of predicted vitamin D status and Crohn's disease risk suggest a sustained interest in modifiable exposures, while his microbiome work on gut microbial function as a predictor of anti-integrin biologic response extends this toward treatment stratification. Beyond these lead-author studies, he contributed to consortium-scale efforts including host–microbe genetic architecture in IBD and multi-omics profiling of the gut microbial ecosystem, the latter alongside Curtis Huttenhower. His middle-author role in intra- and inter-cellular rewiring of the colon in ulcerative colitis reflects engagement with tissue-level mechanisms, and his guideline work on Clostridium difficile diagnosis, treatment, and prevention connects to earlier epidemiological studies of infection burden in IBD patients. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond these publications.
