Daniel A. Haber's research centers on the molecular drivers of lung cancer and the use of blood-based diagnostics to track them. His most-cited work identified activating EGFR mutations that predict gefitinib responsiveness in non–small-cell lung cancer, a finding that reshaped targeted therapy for the disease and underpins later reviews of EGFR mutation biology in lung cancer. Building on this, he demonstrated detection of EGFR mutations in circulating lung-cancer cells, helping establish liquid biopsy as a practical alternative to invasive tumor sampling. Beyond this core line, Haber contributed to microchip-based isolation of rare circulating tumour cells and to work showing that circulating tumor cell clusters act as oligoclonal precursors of breast cancer metastasis, collaborations involving David A. Weitz and others. His portfolio also includes ex vivo culture of circulating breast tumor cells for individualized drug-susceptibility testing and single-prostate-CTC RNA-Seq linking noncanonical Wnt signaling to antiandrogen resistance, alongside earlier germline work on hCHK2 mutations in Li-Fraumeni syndrome. No software, datasets, patents, or grants are indexed beyond these publications. The arc runs from germline cancer susceptibility through oncogene-targeted therapy to minimally invasive, single-cell approaches for monitoring and predicting treatment response.
